GOLDEN ISLES (by air)
JOURNEY ITINERARY:

DAY ONE: Embark on a journey to southern and coastal Georgia filled with culture, architecture, history and the beauty of Three Belles Of The South. (Motor coach Guests Depart this morning) Enjoy the scenery and getting acquainted with our fellow travelers. Our dinner and overnight will be in central Georgia.
DAY TWO: Our morning drive leads us southwest into beautiful Savannah. (Flight Guests Depart St. Louis and Arrive in Savannah) Upon arrival, we will check into our Savannah accommodations for the nest four nights! Dinner will be at a local favorite.
DAY THREE: Exploring Savannah - one of the oldest cities in the United States and the first planned city in America. It was a strategic port during the American Revolution and the American Civil War. Known as the Hostess City of the South, it is truly enchanting and romantic. We’ll start at the Visitors Center with a local guided tour of the city - the best way to experience the moss-draped oaks, stately mansions, and beautiful squares while hearing about the city’s fascinating history and folk-lore. Enjoy free-time afterwards for lunch and browsing along the historic Savannah Riverfront and Old City Market. This afternoon, we will visit the Savannah History Museum housed in the old Central Georgia Railway passenger shed dating back to the 1850’s. The museum is now home to more than 10,000 artifacts including Forest Gump’s bench, one of Johnny Mercer’s Oscar Awards, and a carriage owned by the family of Girl Scouts founder, Juliette Gordon Lowe. This evening we will partake in a delicious dinner at the World Famous Pirates House. - first opened in 1753 as an inn for seafarers, the house became a meeting point for pirates and sailors from the Seven Seas.
DAY FOUR: This morning, our short drive leads us to historic Beaufort. Our local guided tour will highlight Beaufort’s natural beauty, culture and rich history tied to early Southern settlement, the civil war and abundant agriculture. The area was once home to Native American tribes, such as the Creek and Yamasee, before European settlers arrived. We will break for lunch and browsing in town prior to visiting Parris Island Museum. The museum features the long and rich legacy of the U.S. Marine Corps and fascinating history of the Port Royal region. This evening we will return to Savannah’s historic district for our included dinner at a local favorite. After dinner, we will be entertained by the Musical Revue Show at the Savannah Theater. this exciting two hour show features live music, dance and comedy! A fun way to end our day.
DAY FIVE: This morning we will arrive along coastal Georgia and the Golden Isles. Located just south of Savannah, these four beautiful barrier islands - St. Simons Island, Sea Island, Jekyll Island, and Beaufort - make up this region. Upon arrival we will enjoy a guided tour of St. Simons Island - we will learn about the history of the island dating back to the 1600’s and Spanish explorers with a stop at Christ’s Church and Ft. Frederica. Enjoy some free-time
for lunch and browsing in St. Simon’s Island’s Village. This afternoon we will explore Jekyll Island on a guided tour learning about the islands storied history when it was purchased by a number of wealthy families to be used as their own private retreat. Jekyll became the winter home for the Rockefellers, Morgans and other prominent captains of industry. The gathering place was the renowned Jekyll Island Club, and it was reputed that its membership represented over one-sixth of the world’s wealth during its early years. We will have access and time to explore Jekyll Island Club Hotel after our tour. We will enjoy dinner on the Golden Isles this evening.
DAY SIX: (Our flight guests will depart this morning returning to St. Louis today)
Our Motor coach guests will depart Savannah with stops along the way including in Juliette, GA - home of the iconic film ‘Fried Green Tomatoes’. Juliette was the perfect location for the fictional town of Whistle Stop and not much has changed today. Dinner and overnight in Cartersville, GA.
DAY SEVEN: Our final travel day of this Spring journey will have us returning to St. Louis by early evening.
