CANYONLANDS
Zion•Bryce•Capitol Reef
JOURNEY ITINERARY:

The American Canyonlands are a a vast region of dramatic, eroded landscapes in the southwester. These lands are known for their deep canyons, colorful rock formations, natural arches, mesas, and buttes, formed over millions of years by geological processes and the erosive power of rivers. This tour highlights three amazing national Parks showcasing the vast geological changes from one to the next.
DAY ONE: Our journey begins with our flight to Las Vegas. We will board our waiting transportation, enjoy a lunch stop and a drive down the famous “strip”. A stop at Ethel M Chocolates Factory & Cactus Garden is also included. This afternoon we depart and head directly north into Utah and overnight (for two nights) and dinner at the entrance to Zion National Park.
DAY TWO: After breakfast we journey into Zion - one of the most visited and iconic national parks in the United States. It’s famous for its dramatic red rock formations, steep canyons, sandstone cliffs, and scenic beauty. We will start at the Visitors Center and then board Zion’s open-air tram system traveling through the canyon. We enjoy stops at Court of the Patriarchs, Zion Lodge, The Grotto, Big Bend and Temple of Sinawava. Enjoy lunch on own in the park as we spend our entire day here soaking up the beauty of the park. We return late afternoon to our hotel with dinner out.
DAY THREE: After breakfast and checking out of our hotel, our travels just to the north and east lead us to Bryce Canyon National Park. Mesmerizing and stunning in every direction, the park’s unique geological formations and vibrant colors stand out against the desert landscape. After stopping at the visitors center, we will drive into the park for overview stops. The park is famous for its hoodoos - tall, thin spires of rock formed by frost-wedging and erosion. Bryce has the largest concentration of these in the world. The rocks range in color from red and orange to white and are some of the most photographed rock formations in the world. We will check into our accommodations for the evening at the entrance to Bryce. This evening we will visit Ruby’s at Bryce featuring the largest gift shop of it’s kind in the Bryce Canyon - boasting an impressive selection of authentic Southwestern Indian arts and crafts including jewelry, pottery and tapestry weavings. For dinner - enjoy a Cowboy Western Dinner serving up all you can eat chuckwagon style smorgasbord.
DAY FOUR: After having breakfast and checking out of our Bryce hotel, we travel just north to Capitol Reef National Park in south-central Utah. Cornerstone’s Board Members rank this as one of their favorite lesser-known gems in the National Park system. Capitol Reef is known for its colorful canyons, ridges, buttes, and monoliths as well as a rich history of Indigenous cultures and early Mormon settlers. The park’s defining feature is the Waterpocket Fold, a nearly 100-mile-long warp in the Earth’s crust—essentially a wrinkle in the landscape that has created cliffs, canyons, domes, and natural bridges. The drive is spectacular and we will enjoy our day exploring this truly amazing natural place. We will overnight and have dinner just outside the park. Star gazing here is amazing!
DAY FIVE: After enjoying breakfast we depart to Salt Lake City Airport. Our afternoon flight will return us home to St. Louis after this fantastic canyonland journey. We hope you can join us!
